Intrigue

Just yesterday I posted a short tribute to Acquire, a game that I believe puts class and swagger into griefing. Today I played a game that is the complete opposite sort of griefing game. Today, I played Intrigue (for the first time).

Wow, that game is total evil (in the best way possible). It’s not even possible to win that game without being a complete and total jerk to everyone around you… not even close. And the evil is so simple to embrace too. Basically, every player represents a family attempting to bribe their way into positions in their opponent’s houses. But the best part (and what makes this game such a grief fest) is that you take all money offered regardless if you honor the bribe’s conditions or not. I know, right? Pure evil.

Second round I got totally screwed by John (skipsizemore). He and I didn’t see eye to eye for the rest of the game after that. But what’s funny about Intrigue is that’s the point! Sometimes you drop extra coinage to remove grudges, other times a grudge is the best possible inspiration. To keep this article short – I loved everything about this horribly demented game and can’t wait to play it again (and win it again, if I’m cut-throat enough to manage).

Oh, and thanks to Bruno Faidutti for exposing me to this game on his blog.

One of the most HEATED evenings of gameplay ever with our group. There was backstabbing, weak alliances, cursing, and faces red with rage. So much fun. Be sure to try Lifeboats for more of the same..

    I know right? Fantastic!

We’re expecting Lifeboats to arrive sometime soon. Thanks for the suggestion. Griefing can be great.
